How do you make a global superstar feel like an indie artist playing in your living room?
THE FANS OF DUNGEON LANE
When Paul McCartney rolled out his latest solo studio album, 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane', his team at MPL faced a massive challenge. How to launch a global campaign without losing the raw, vulnerable intimacy of the music and the stories behind them?
A standard corporate rollout would have missed the mark. As part of the campaign, his team deployed Openstage to build an interconnected, global ecosystem that put fans exactly where they belonged, inside of the story.
By shifting from a transactional "product drop" to a grassroots and community driven movements, they have helped to redefine the modern album rollout.
HOW THEY DID IT
Crowdsourced memories: They opened up a loop by inviting multi generational fans to share their own photos, favourite tracks from the archive and first listens with the album.
Identifying Dedicated Fans: Using historical engagement data, the team identified the most dedicated segments of the audience, rewarding them with exclusive "voicenotes" and previews of content before the general public.
Hyper-Intimate & Global Playbacks: In the room: Closed-door listening sessions in LA and Abbey Road Studio 2, where small groups of fans hand-picked through Openstage sat inches away from Paul as he broke down stories and chords behind the album weeks before anyone else. At home: Fans who couldn't attend were empowered to host their own parties, complete with a Maccarita recipe, submitting their reactions back to the wider community.
